Our bloggers were treated to the glorious strains of Mozart as they checked out the school orchestra this week. Sixth Formers have their own centre, their own subjects and their own identity, but they also benefit from being part of a larger school community. Nowhere is this more evident than in the choirs, orchestras, jazz bands and other ensembles which enrich the communal life of St Mary's.

Det Danske Sprog
At lunchtime today an enthusiastic class of Year 7s threw themselves into the inaugural lesson of the Danish Language Club, set up and run by one of our Lower 6th students. Now you might not think that there was much demand for Danish lessons but you'd be amazed at what can be achieved with a little cake and a whole load of enthusiasm.
More and more of the Sixth Form are taking on leadership roles. Some are setting up and running clubs, others are acting as mentors to younger students, while others still are running the Student Council. However, just at the moment there's nothing quite like Danish Language Club. Long may it flourish.

Photo Opportunity
The photos on this blog cannot hope to rival those of one of our Upper 6th students. Here she is helping us decide which of her glorious pictures should adorn the walls of our new Sixth Form Centre. These photos were taken for the Silver Arts Award but we are also quite excited about the fact that Photography is now also part of the Art curriculum.

Taking a Lead
The Sixth Form have been developing their leadership skills in a whole range of interesting (and sometimes unusual) ways. The photo above shows some of them leading Science Club while the two photos below show them in action with the Gardening Club.
Some of the Sixth Form are also taking a lead in this year's big musical: Oliver. Rehearsals are in their early stages but it's looking like it's going to be another musical and dramatic spectacular.
That's enough for now: I'm off to find out more about the Danish Language Club!
